Here's the newest techno-word: Informavores. This describes people who forage for information on the Web. According to Jakob Nielsen's latest Alertbox newsletter, http://www.useit.com/alertbox/20030630.html, Informavores behave like wild beasts looking for food in the jungle. They use optimal food-gathering techniques, i.e., they want the most info for the least effort. This means that Web sites should:
- Be a snack, and support short visits with short bites of text.
- Encourage visitors to return with newsletters (see eLawMarketing for great HTML newsletters)
- Emphasize search engine visibility to encourage frequent visits.

My friend Tom Kane has moved to Sarasota with his lovely wife Toula and set up a marketing consulting practice. Tom was CMO at Blank Rome and Saul Ewing, both in Philadelphia, and is a heck of a smart guy. I can personally recommend him for any consulting assignment.
Tom advises law firms on:
- Marketing department outsourcing -- serving as the marketing director for small firms.
- Strategic marketing planning -- developing actual, workable, written marketing plans.
- Individual coaching - and implementing those plans.
- RFP responses - helping local firms respond when corporations bid out legal work.

Collapsing Chicago firm Altheimer & Gray has mysteriously cancelled a partnership vote on dissolution which had been scheduled for today.
The firm said on Friday (27 June), in a statement confirming that the firm had decided to dissolve, that a vote would take place on Monday.
However it appears that the vote, due to take place at 9.30am central time, has now been put off. Representatives for Altheimer were unable to say if the vote had merely been postponed or whether it had been abandoned completely.
The decision leaves the firm’s 301 lawyers and 700 administration staff in limbo. It emerged on Thursday last week that the 88-year old Altheimer would be breaking up the partnership by July.
It is understood that the firm has been grappling with a high level of debt as work, particularly in the private equity market, continued to dry up.
